One RES Water Foundation Deactivated Until Futher Notice

Posted: May 26, 2012

May 24th, 2012. Dear Parent, Guardians and Staff: As part of a revised water testing protocol that the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has implemented, additional testing of drinking water at Rexton Elementary School has recently been carried out. All functional drinking fountains in the school were tested; one fountain was found with levels of Copper exceeding the provincial Health Advisory Limit (HAL). The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and School District 16 are currently assessing appropriate corrective measures. Once these are in place, re-sampling will be carried out and submitted to the Department of Environment for analysis. In the meantime and as a precaution, the affected fountain has been deactivated. The health and safety of students and staff in our schools is a key priority of School District 16 and the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. We will work with our partners to resolve the issue in a timely fashion. Should you have any questions, please contact your school district by phoning 1-800-661-6667. Mrs. Diane Wilson, Principal of Rexton Elementary School
