Schools Move to Learning From Home

Posted: November 2, 2021

Dear Parents,

We understand that the current strike is impacting our students and families in many ways. That is why, starting today, all schools across the province moved to Home Learning to provide stability to students, parents and guardians until the strike is over. Our goal is to provide our students with the opportunity to continue their learning throughout this period of labor unrest.

All students, K-12 are expected to participate in Home Learning each school day. What this will look like for each class will depend upon the age of the student and the approach being taken by your child’s teacher. Differences between grade-levels, programs and schools will be in response to age-appropriate learning practices. We encourage families to work with their students to ensure they continue learning during this time. Daily participation in Home Learning, by all students, will help to ensure that students don’t fall behind with their education.

Please see below general expectations for teachers at all grade levels:

·          Establish a daily check in and/or connection with students.

·          Gr. K – 2 will utilize learning packages or online connections.

·          Gr. 3 – 8 will utilize learning packages and online where possible, following the regular classroom schedule.

·          Gr. 9 -12 will utilize online learning and include period check-ins to confirm attendance.

Attendance will be taken for older students who are learning virtually. Attendance will also be tracked regularly by the school district with regular reports provided back to the department.  Logging on or engaging in learning every day is crucial to supporting students, particularly given disruptions to education caused by the pandemic.

If you were unable to collect your child(ren)’s essential items at school, please contact your principal to make arrangements as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
