Rexton Elementary School Families with Great Sadness We Share This

Rexton Elementary School Families,

It is with a great deal of sadness that we share the following news with you.

We were informed that a grade one student unexpectedly passed away last evening. Out of respect for the family, we are unable to share any additional details at this time. This news has impacted us all greatly, and our thoughts are with their family and friends.

We are also thinking of our school community. Should your child need to talk to someone please reach out to the school to make an appointment at 523-7152.

We have also uploaded resources to the Documents section of our school website to support you at home when speaking with your childhttp://rextonelementary.nbed.nb.ca/

These resources include suggestions such as:

Explain Concretely- Children aren’t able to process figurative language like adults. Say “Died” rather than “passed away”, “lost”, or “went to sleep”

Expect many Emotions- Grieving children will experience a variety of emotions. Let them know its okay and normal to feel however they are feeling.

Routine- It is important to maintain a routine as much as possible. This provides students a sense of stability and security.

Again, we are here to help support our school community at this sad time- please contact us if you need additional resources.
