On Friday, February 15, 2019 RES’s Emma Jane Ward-Levi was presented with ASDN’s Starfish Award, at a school-wide Assembly. The award recognized Emma’s outstanding leadership and pro-active citizenship skills. Emma Jane is actually the first elementary student in our district to be presented with this prestigious award!

Early in the month of February, Emma Janediscovered a storybook in her class that containeda racist passage and she reported her disturbing findings to the school and to her mother.

Thanks to Emma’s actions, schools and public libraries across the province/nation have been re-thinking and revisiting the literature available to students to ensure that our reading material is appropriate and sensitive to all.

We are so very proud of you, Emma Jane ~ thank-you!
